We are proud that
WE SPEND $5 BILLION ANNUALLY
on operating and capital costs related to pollution control and initiating efforts to further improve air quality and water.
WE DETECT EMISSIONS
Many of our facilities have state-of-the-art infrared cameras that detect emissions that were once undetectable and help cut down on hydrocarbon leaks that were once undetectable.
WE TEST AND EVALUATE
air quality and emissions on a regular basis.
WE REDUCED
benzene emissions levels by almost 80 percent over the past five years.
WE CLOSELY MONITOR
wastewater effluent from our facilities to protect local surface and groundwater resources.
Protecting Air Quality
Member companies have taken a leadership position in improving air quality by pledging further reductions to help bring the Houston/Galveston area into compliance with federal standards for ozone. For example, the total quantities of reported emissions were reduced by 76 percent in the Houston region from fiscal year 2003 to fiscal year 2006.
The East Harris County Manufacturers Association’s Principles for Cleaner Air underscores its ongoing commitment to promote a State Implementation Plan (SIP) that promotes human health and protection of the environment while maintaining the economic and competitive strengths of this region.
Clean Texas was a voluntary environmental leadership program to protect air, water, and land resources in Texas. Clean Texas recognized organizations for creative approaches in resolving environmental challenges and setting goals that exceed compliance levels under existing regulations.
Although the Clean Texas program has expired, the TCEQ continues to encourage the use of Environmental Management Systems. To learn more about this initiative click here.
