From Nathan Levin, GM, Shell Deer Park Chemicals
Friends & Neighbors of Shell Deer Park,
Today, we completed the sale of Shell’s interest in the Deer Park Refinery, which therefore transfers full ownership of the refinery, to Pemex.
The sale marks the start of a new chapter for Shell in Deer Park as we focus solely on our operations at our 100% owned Deer Park Chemicals facility located adjacent to the refinery.
With more than 90 years in the Deer Park community, Shell has seen many changes, both within and outside the site and our Chemicals business has played a strong role in Deer Park. In 1941, the Chemicals plant came online as the first U.S. full-scale butadiene plant, creating highly needed synthetic rubber during World War II. Moving forward, the Chemicals site will produce low carbon offerings to meet the demands of our customers for a sustainable product through integration with our other U.S. Gulf Coast assets.
The refinery and chemicals teams have been instrumental not only in preparing the refinery for Pemex operations, but also in continuing a legacy of safety and performance that dates back 92 years. We look forward to remaining a neighbor in the Deer Park community through our standalone chemicals facility that will continue to play an integral role in building a strong and resilient Gulf Coast.
You can still find us on our Shell Deer Park Chemicals website (shell.us/DeerPark), Facebook and Twitter (@ShellDeerPark). Please feel free to reach out at any time with questions or comments regarding our operations.
Sincerely,
Nathan Levin
