Houston Industry Golf Tournament Fundraiser Expands
PetrochemWorks™ Golf Tournament Will Continue a Legacy of Success Starting in 2014
HOUSTON, June 20, 2017 – Previously the Workforce Development Golf Tournament, the PetrochemWorks™ Golf Tournament has expanded to be one of the largest joint manufacturing and construction industry fundraisers in the greater Houston area. In the last three years, the annual tournament has raised almost $1M for regional workforce development.
The event will now be co-hosted by East Harris County Manufacturers Association (EHCMA), Association of Chemical Industry of Texas (ACIT), Texas Chemical Council (TCC) and Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston (ABC).
The shotgun-style tournament will be held at Wildcat Golf Club on Friday, October 27, 2017. Proceeds raised from the golf tournament will benefit student scholarships and technical programs at San Jacinto College, Lee College and Houston Community College. Each year, there has been a 55 percent increase in proceeds raised. This year’s goal will be $600K, up $100K from last year’s proceeds of $500K.
The tournament adopted its name from PetrochemWorks.com, an informational site connecting students and job seekers to the benefits of working in the thriving petrochemical industry, the education needed, types of jobs and much more. This rebrand reflects the need for inclusion of construction industries, maintenance, educational institutions and more, in addition to the petrochemical industry.
The PetrochemWorks™ Golf Tournament raises awareness of the expanding skills gap in the petrochemical, construction and contracting industries. More than 50 percent of the region’s petrochemical and manufacturing employees are retiring over the next few years as the industry is continuing to expand, leading to more than 11,700 positions needed. The proceeds from this event are critical in helping students who are interested in filling these positions and the local community colleges be equipped to educate and train this capacity of skilled workers.
“I am thrilled to see other leading industry organizations joining forces to make this event as impactful as it can be, ” said the PetrochemWorks™ Golf Tournament Chair Prentice Wilson. “It is because of these partners and 100+ generous sponsors that the tournament will be able to make a real difference in the next generation’s workforce.”
